Welcome 'Joy' the Sheep!
Welcome to Joy, the artist designed Shaun the Sheep, for St Oswald's Hospice's 'Shaun on the Tyne' Trail.
From the 19th July until the 27th September, Shaun the Sheep sculptures will be taking residence all over the city. They form a trail for children and adults to go and find all 75 large sheep and the smaller flocks, ticking them off on their trail maps and apps as they go.
At many locations you can unlock offers and discounts available at the venues.
Our Shaun the Sheep is called Joy. She was designed by local artist Sharon Armstrong, who came up with the design to celebrate the Joy of Summer and everyone coming together and having fun.
We thought this was the perfect design for the Gosforth Shopping Centre, it's so fun and clearly illustrates our customer base of families, grandparents, older people and little ones. We loved the flowers and kites on the design too and thought we'd like to take Sharon's idea further and celebrate summer across the centre.
We held flower workshop sessions with local school children from Archibald First School and held adult flower making sessions in the community and a Brunch and Bloom event at Etto.
All the flowers on display were made by our local community at these events.
We also asked the local schools if they wanted to be involved in decorating kites for us to hang from the centre ceiling.. and just look at the display. The kids have super talent, we were delighted to decorate the centre with their designs to continue to spread Joy.
Joy is now fully at home in the centre and is also joined by a flock of six smaller sheep from the local schools. We have Lamb Shanksy by South Wellfield First School, Tynie by Tyneview Primary School, Friendsheep by Regent Farm First School, Praise Ewe by Great Park Academy and Welbecks Perfect Day by Welbeck Academy.
Trail maps are available to purchase from Yum Lush and WhSmith for a suggested £1 donation.
We have offers running at the shops and cafes in the centre once you unlock the code on Joy. Good luck!
Come and visit our gorgeous flock and feel the joy. We hope you love them as much as we do.
